ROBERT A JOHNSON

Robert A. Johnson "Bob", 81, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017 after complications from recent heart surgery. He was born in Billings, Montana to Edgar and Jean Johnson. He grew up in Southern California and later moved his family to Mesa, Arizona. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Landstuhl, Germany during the post World War II occupation. After returning home, he started his long career in the Construction Industry with Industrial Asphalt as a dispatcher in Southern California, later transferring with his family to Mesa, Arizona as a Zone Manager. He established many lifelong friendships with his clients during his 28 years with Industrial. It was from one of those special friendships, with Bob Wheeler and John Seibert, that led to the next stage of his career as Senior Vice President for Wheeler Construction Inc. He spent many enjoyable years working with young engineers and people in the industry, leaving an impression on everyone he worked with throughout his long career. During his many years in the industry, Bob wore many hats. He served as President of Arizona Rock Products Association (Life Director in 2001), President of Associated General Contractors (Life Director in 2015), and on many boards and service committees. Though he had achieved many accomplishments throughout his career, his greatest pleasures were hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He retired in 2002 to live happily with the best catch of his life, Nancy. His truest joy was time spent with his family. Whether it be boating, camping, hiking, schooling his family in the art of mumbly peg, reciting Robert Service poetry or sitting around the campfire telling his original stories, Bob was in his glory just being Papa. Bob is survived by his wife Nancy of 53 years, daughter Robin (Barry) Goddard, son Edgar (Christina) Johnson, grandchildren Michael (Katie) Gonzales, Elizabeth Gonzales, Robert Johnson, Sarah Johnson, great grandson Ledger Gonzales, many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Shirley Johnson and Sharon Falk. Memorial Service will be held at Grace Baptist Church 2010 S. Highway 89 Chino Valley, AZ 86323 Saturday February 18, 2017 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to: VFW Post 10227, 2375 N. 5th Street, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314.
